Allianz Global Assistance Continues to Grow in its 25th Year
The expansion is in support of a new travel assistance partnership with a major Canadian bank and to support the company’s efforts to expand its business in the travel agency and tour operator spaces.
Beginning as a small company established to provide third party administration for the Canadian insurance market, Allianz Global Assistance has since grown into one of Canada’s leading travel insurance and assistance providers. This success is due in part to the company’s business partnerships with some of the travel and banking industries’ best known brands.
In 1988, Allianz Global Assistance Canada began administering travel related service program as World Access Canada in Kitchener, Ontario. The company expanded into a full-service emergency assistance and claims centre in 1992 when Government Health Insurance Plans significantly reduced out-of-country medical benefits. In 2000, the Paris, France-based Mondial Assistance Group acquired World Access Group, including the Kitchener, ON location, thereby becoming the world's largest travel insurance and assistance company.
Over the past decade, close ties to its parent company, Allianz SE, has allowed the Canadian business unit to expand its offering to include underwritten travel insurance programs for the travel agency sector. These ties were further solidified when the company rebranded to Allianz Global Assistance in early 2012.
Throughout these landmark moves and sustained growth, Allianz Global Assistance has stayed true to its mission of helping people, anytime, anywhere. “One thing that has not changed throughout our 25 year history is our commitment to helping people,” said Martin Lyons, Deputy CEO of Allianz Global Assistance Canada. “By maintaining this focus on delivering world-class solutions to our clients, Allianz Global Assistance has become the supplier of choice for Canada’s leading travel suppliers and banks.”
Looking forward to the next 25 years, Lyons noted, “We’re excited to be growing and building on the experience we’ve gained through our long history. By continuing to evolve, we will ensure Allianz Global Assistance will be helping Canadian travellers for years to come.”
