Phil Hibbert - Chief Executive Officer
Phil is a proven strategic leader with extensive international experience in the insurance and financial services industries. Phil has held key leadership roles within Allianz Global Assistance since March 2012, most recently as CEO of Allianz Global Assistance New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia. A native New Zealander, Phil joined the company in early 2012 and for the following 10 months led AGA-NZ through the acquisition and integration of Comprehensive Travel Insurance (CTI). Under his leadership, the business achieved exceptional growth and currently holds the top market position in New Zealand.
Prior to his Allianz experience, Phil gained significant leadership experience through 15 years in the financial services and insurance industries. He has also had success as an entrepreneur, founding an insurance business which was eventually sold to a large insurer in New Zealand.
In his role as Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Global Assistance Canada, Phil will focus on driving growth with existing and new partners in the company’s strategic distribution channels of travel agencies, brokers and financial institutions. Additionally, he will lead the company’s continued expansion as a medical assistance and cost containment provider of choice for Canadian and international insurers. He will also guide the Canadian operations in completing all integration activities related to the January 2015 merger with TIC Travel Insurance Coordinators.
Gino Riola - Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Gino is an expert in financial services distribution and marketing. He started his career with the Allianz Group, trained in Europe and contributed to the successful expansion of its Life and Health insurance operations in South East Asia, China and India. Among his achievements are the successful launch of bank partnerships, agency sales force distribution networks and direct marketing programs. He shifted to Property and Casualty insurance after moving to Canada in 2005, with responsibilities for ING’s Affiliated Distribution Network. Gino has a Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines. He also completed a post-graduate diploma in Direct Marketing from the UK and has a Master of Business Administration from The Richard Ivey School of Business. Outside of work, he’s passionate about Arsenal FC and an active community volunteer as a certified head coach in rep soccer and basketball.
Magdi Riad - Chief Operating Officer and Vice President, Operations
Magdi is our risk expert. Magdi is strategically positioning the Claims and Travel Assistance departments of Allianz Global Assistance for growth, leveraging his wealth of experience in risk management to mitigate losses. Magdi also works closely with CUMIS and other underwriters, drawing on his strategic experience in risk reduction. As important are his customer service skills, honed through his years as a travel agent. A results driven management executive, he was part of the founding team of Ingle Life & Health Assurance Company in 1993 and an active executive in the merger between Trent Health and TIC in 2004. Today, Magdi lives in Scarborough, Ontario with his wife and children. His favourite travel destination is the Caribbean Islands but his dream is to enjoy the unique life in the Amazon Rainforest.
Markus Mueller - Vice President, Underwriting and Product
Markus is an expert in underwriting and product development with a strong actuarial background. For over 15 years, Markus has provided superior leadership during critical transition phases, including hiring and developing technical staff, implementing process improvements and best practices, building company equity through underwriting profit, and installing sound governance and controls. With a strong technical background, he has experience in all aspects of reserving and pricing, financial forecasting, financial reporting, product development, and policy fulfillment.
Markus has been recognized for creating a best-in-class team within Allianz Global Assistance that is positioned to support growth and profit. Most recently, Markus has taken a role as Lead Area Underwriter for the Americas where he has been able to build the underwriting community, strong governance, and the sharing of best practices within the region. Markus holds a Bachelor of Science degree in in Applied Math from the University of Western Ontario and is an Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and society of Actuaries. In his free time he enjoys spending quiet time with his family and friends.
Michael Marco - Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Finance
Michael is our numbers expert. He leads the finance and corporate services teams, and is responsible for financial decisions, accounting transactions, expense management and facilities management. Prior to joining TIC, Michael led finance teams with a number of insurance and banking leaders including Aviva Canada, Intact and Royal Bank of Canada. During his career, Michael has earned his MBA, CMA and CRMA designations, and now shares what he knows about leadership and accounting teaching at CMA Ontario. Michael grew up in Montreal and has lived in Atlanta. Oakville is now home to him, his wife and three children. For many years, Michael has been active in local groups in his community, and is currently on the Board of Directors for Acclaim Health, a not-for-profit focused on home care in Halton. An avid traveller, Michael plans to one day take an Alaskan cruise and a trip to Barcelona and Italy.
Richard Ollier - Vice President, Risk Management, Compliance and Legal
Richard is a senior leader with over 20 years’ experience and expertise in the areas of Risk Management, Compliance, and Legal support services; 15 of which have been in a senior leadership capacity. Richard has designed and implemented robust Compliance, Risk Management and Governance programmes, and has built and developed a strong and skilled team within Allianz Global Assistance Canada, as well as building exceptional relationships with industry peers and regulators. Respected throughout the industry, Richard demonstrates and champions unquestionable ethics, and exhibits a pragmatic yet thorough approach to regulatory and governance related subject matter.
Richard holds the roles of Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Risk Officer, Chief Privacy Officer, Business Continuity and Legal Liaison. He is an appointed Officer of the company, and is an active contributor and member of the Executive board for the industry group, the Travel Health Insurance Association of Canada (THiA); currently in the role of Secretary. Richard is an avid soccer fan, and values spending spare time with his friends, his wife of 9 years and his 6 year old daughter, as well as being an active member of his daughter’s school council.
Teresa Straatsma - Vice President, Human Resources
Teresa is our people expert. With 15 years of management experience, coupled with her ongoing professional development, she has led a proactive human resources strategy that encompasses over 600 staff members across Canada. Under her guidance, Allianz Global Assistance's human resources department recruits, trains and improves the well-being of staff through the implementation of people-friendly policies. Teresa enjoys travelling to Europe, having spent quality time in Italy, France, and Prague. Spain is her next planned destination.
