Travel insurance:
Expect expertise and caring support

We strongly encourage you to review the following information ahead of your trip. If you have any questions or need more information, call the number provided in your travel insurance package.

  • Check travel advisories on the countries you will be visiting. Review COVID-19 requirements for your departure, arrival at your destination, and return to Canada.
  • Take the time to read your policy and coverage details, confirm you have the right coverage, and reach out with any questions.
  • If you have any known medical conditions, including a change in health, you might not be covered in certain situations, if applicable to your plan. Remember: travel insurance doesn’t cover everything!
  • Check your travel dates, flights, hotel bookings, and policy coverage dates – make sure all the dates line up!
  • Confirm how to call Canada from your destination country before you leave.
Pack these items:

  • Passport and Visa (if necessary)
  • Travel insurance documents
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccine and/or negative COVID-19 test results
  • Your medication in your carry-on, but leave any cannabis products at home
  • Re-usable bag to keep invoices, receipts, proof of departure (boarding pass) in.

If you require medical care while travelling, it is critical that you contact Allianz Global Assistance before seeking treatment. Our caring and experienced in-house medical team is ready to help you 24/7.

Our Emergency Assistance Specialists will guide you to the most optimal healthcare solution based on your condition and location, arrange payment on your behalf whenever possible, and share important information and next steps related to your claim.

In a life-threatening medical emergency, get to a hospital immediately and have a family member or friend call Allianz on your behalf within 24 hours of admission and before any surgery is performed.

To contact us 24/7 in an emergency, please use the toll-free numbers provided in your travel insurance package. To call collect from outside North America, international operator assistance is required.

We’ll ask for your policy number, so please have it ready when you call.

We need your permission to help, so please sign the release forms we send. This allows us to gather information from the treating facility and your family doctor.

Make sure you:

  • Gather all your claim information (invoices, receipts, etc.). It’s all in that re-usable bag, right?
  • Submit your claim through our online claims portal

Remember, submit your claim as soon as possible.

The sooner we receive all your claim information, the faster we can review your claim.

If information is missing, we will contact you.

Each claim is unique and may require records from the facility where you were treated, and/or your doctors at home. Obtaining these records may take some time.

Once your claim has been reviewed, you will receive your explanation of benefits.
